Installing these panels - if I tighten the door handle properly to the door, the handle does not spring back because it is too tight against the grommet. Why doesn't this have a grommet big enough for the base of the handle to slip through the grommet hole relieving the tension. Doesn't make sense.

That is because they have always been this way. The factory panels had the handles sitting on top of the grommets and not in them.
