Say hello to ALL NEW front brakes! Introducing improved stopping power, reliability, safety, and performance: Prima Front Brakes! For the show car, daily driver, street performance enthusiast, and budget racer… Utilizing European parts and the finest American design and workmanship, you can rely on these brakes for years to come; and they won’t break the bank. Don’t be fooled, there is no other economy Brake Kit that offers all NEW components!!
This is not merely an oversized stock brake system; this is a modern brake system with vastly improved sliding pin calipers, and oversized VENTED rotors (also available drilled and slotted). This is the same technology FIAT chose above all others for use on the venerated Nuova 500, which we have now brought to your classic Fiat for an unbeatable price!
Original vintage Fiat brakes utilize archaic and troublesome solid rotors and the sliding wedge caliper design, which requires the moving portion of the brake assembly to grind and slide across large steel brake wedges. These surfaces are prone to rust, corrosion, brake dust accumulation, and more, which leads to dragging brakes and horrible, inconsistent brake performance. The most noticeable and hazardous result of this is rapid, uneven braking described as sawing at the steering wheel.
Solid rotors and sliding wedge calipers have gone the way of the buffalo, and for a very good reason. Like modern Fiat brakes, this NEW brake system eliminates the many problems associated with solid rotors and sliding wedge calipers, and goes even farther. Prima brakes will perform with grace under the most demanding driving, for both safety and fun!
VAS also offers a full line of inexpensive and easy-to-install replacement parts, which will bring your new front brakes to a swift stop–far into the future. Buy with confidence! VAS offers and sells more stock AND performance brake components for vintage FIAT Group cars than anyone else in the world!

So i have owned Fiat spiders and X1/9s for nearly 45 years. The one glaring weakness of the spider has always been the brakes. The sliding block design is prone to seizing. This is what happened to my daughters ’79 spider. I bought the VAS kit in the hopes of finally being able to hit the brakes and not have the car pull first to one side, then as you apply more brake, the other. The VAS kit gives you a perfectly normal, modern, reliable front brake system that gives good, proper feed back, with predictable stopping, and with no pulling! I literally took my hands off the wheel and did a straight, drama free stop just like any modern car. If you don’t want to replace your front bearings while making this conversion, then I would Highly recommend at least buying a pair of the left hand and right hand hub nuts, since these must be "staked" in place after properly torquing them. If you are still running 13" rims, factory or aftermarket, you may, as I did, have to shave down the caliper alittle to get proper clearance. I used my 4.5" side grinder with a 60 grit flap wheel sanding pad to get my old American Racing aluminum rims to fit. Its really not hard at all, but if your running 15" wheels, it won’t be necessary. If you like your Spider, spend the $450. It will be the best money you’ve ever spent on the car. It will make you fall in love with it all over again!
