So i have owned Fiat spiders and X1/9s for nearly 45 years. The one glaring weakness of the spider has always been the brakes. The sliding block design is prone to seizing. This is what happened to my daughters '79 spider. I bought the VAS kit in the hopes of finally being able to hit the brakes and not have the car pull first to one side, then as you apply more brake, the other. The VAS kit gives you a perfectly normal, modern, reliable front brake system that gives good, proper feed back, with predictable stopping, and with no pulling! I literally took my hands off the wheel and did a straight, drama free stop just like any modern car. If you don't want to replace your front bearings while making this conversion, then I would Highly recommend at least buying a pair of the left hand and right hand hub nuts, since these must be "staked" in place after properly torquing them. If you are still running 13" rims, factory or aftermarket, you may, as I did, have to shave down the caliper alittle to get proper clearance. I used my 4.5" side grinder with a 60 grit flap wheel sanding pad to get my old American Racing aluminum rims to fit. Its really not hard at all, but if your running 15" wheels, it won't be necessary. If you like your Spider, spend the $450. It will be the best money you've ever spent on the car. It will make you fall in love with it all over again!
